Studies show that children need to be immersed in a print rich environment and involved in a variety of meaningful and enjoyable literacy experiences. Reading researchers and early childhood experts agree that these experiences are essential in supporting children’s early reading development. Adult support also plays an important role. Ensuring that children enjoy some type of daily literacy experience is something everyone can do. Here are a few early reading building blocks parents can put into action at home.

Terrific Toys For All Tots!

From an early age, play is an important component of a child’s development and learning. Great philosophers and scholars such as Plato, Aristotle and Locke placed significant value on play. Today’s educational experts continue to support the importance of developmentally appropriate play and developmentally appropriate toys for boys and girls. Choosing toys that appeal to our children and also support learning are important.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Not Durable I bought this for my 3 year old son for Christmas because he is really into robots. We thought that it would be a great way for him to learn while playing with something that interests him. The problem is that he some times put two chips in at once and it get jammed. One time he even put a penny in the slot. It was a huge pain to get out because we had to take the whole robot apart. After the penny incident we only let him play with it while we are sitting right next to him. This is not a toy that 3 years old can play with on their own. Use caution and supervision! Rated 1 out of 5 by Cogsley Doesn't Work This piece of junk malfunctioned right out of the box. None of the chips work. None of the educational settings work. All he does is his stupid talent show bit over and over... and over... and over. I expect better from Vtech. December 26, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Chips get jammed in Cogsley I am disappointed that this item would be so breakable. My 4 year old put two chips in at once and the toy was jammed. There is no way to get them out, we have tried. Isn't there people working for Vtech that would have figured out any kid would sick two chips in at once? When I bought the Vtech brand that is something I made the mistake in assuming. I completely thought they would have worked the bugs out and at least made it age appropriate. Do not buy this. Any kid is going to put two chips in and then it is broken. My sons lasted about 15 minutes. Huge waste of money. September 4, 2013

Rated 2 out of 5 by Disappointed! Gogsley was one of the many Christmas toys received. He was the first to get played with. The plastic coins kept getting stuck and jamming the robot. Us grandparents didn't think our adult children were supervising specifically when they called to tell us to return it. We had the child and the toy. It jammed and fouled up a lot. I was disappointed. I did not return it. Christmas is overwhelming enough without having to mail back a toy that was highly recommended by Consumer Report. Buyer Beware! March 1, 2013
