Beat the Winter Blues with an Indoor Beach Party by VTech Mom
After hearing the news that a certain large rodent saw his shadow earlier this month, thus predicting 6 more weeks of winter, the kids and I decided a little beach day was in order!
However, since our beaches are currently covered in snow and our lakes are covered in ice caps, we’re getting creative and bringing the beach indoors!
5 Tips for Beating the Winter Blues with an Indoor Beach Party:
1. Dress appropriately!
Turn up the heat just a bit and pull out that box of summer clothes you tucked away last fall. Have everyone get dressed in their favorite shorts, t-shirts, sundresses and flip-flops! Don’t forget the sun visors and sunglasses!
2. Get comfy with a good book!
One of our favorite beach day activities is reading while we soak up some of that vitamin D. Even though you aren’t out in the sun, you can still enjoy your favorite book by laying out some beach towels or beach chairs in the living room. And you don’t have to worry about getting sunscreen on those pages!
3. Picnic lunch!
While you have those beach towels out, enjoy a picnic lunch at your make-believe beach. The best part – no sand in the sandwiches and no seagulls looking for a quick snack!
4. Go for a swim…in the bathtub!
It is amazing how excited my kids get when I tell them they get to play in the bathtub in their swimsuits! Toss in a few beach toys or give them a snorkel and mask and their everyday bathtub has become their own little pool!
5. “Sandcastle” building competition!
No, I’m not quite crazy enough to cover my living room in sand, despite how fun that really does sound! Instead we use stuff we have around the house to create our ultimate “sandcastles”! Empty boxes, building blocks, pillows, clay…let their imaginations run wild and see what they come up with!
By the time our beach day is over, we’ve {almost} forgotten about the fact that it’s still winter outside for a few more weeks! And while the kids had a blast bringing the “beach” inside, I loved not having everything covered in beach sand at the end of the day!
